Van Joseph Cheramie, 78, resident of Larose, passed away at his home on November 13, 2025.
Van was a proud Eagle Scout, a career educator, and an army veteran of the Vietnam War, awarded
the Bronze Star for distinguished service in 1971. He first attended Ole Miss, where he was a
member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. After his military service, he returned to Nicholls State
University where he earned his Masters of Education. Over his thirty-three year career with the
Lafourche Parish School District, Van worked in all areas of public education: as a 4th grade teacher,
an elementary principal, and later as the Title I Director for the District. A lifelong learner and devoted
educator, his legacy of boundless energy and kindness will be carried forward by all who had the
privilege of knowing him.
Van is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie Curole Cheramie; his daughter, Jeanne Saba and
husband, Brent; his grandson, Quentin Saba; his son, William Cheramie and wife, Kristi; his brother,
Edmond Cheramie and wife, Miriam; and his sister, Ora Ordoyne.
Van was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Cheramie and Florine Philomena
Raymond Cheramie; and his brother-in-law, Dale Ordoyne.
All are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in
Larose on Monday, November 24, 2025; visitation from 9-11 and funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.
His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration.
