In Loving Memory of Ron Michael Landry Jr
August 8, 1990 - October 12, 2026
Ron Landry was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father and stepfather, a proud towboat captain, and a man whose life was defined by love, loyalty, generosity, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to the people he held closest to his heart.
To know Ron was to know a man who loved deeply, gave generously, laughed often, and never hesitated to put the needs of others before his own. He was a man of remarkable character who didn’t simply speak about love, responsibility, or devotion. He demonstrated those qualities every single day through the way he lived and the way he cared for those around him.
Above all else, Ron was a family man.
He was the beloved husband of Destiny Landry, his wife of ten years, a loving and proud father to his daughter, Rylie Landry, and stepfather to Laney Borne. His family was his greatest accomplishment, his greatest joy, and the reason behind everything he worked so hard to achieve.
Ron Michael Landry Jr. was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Norman and Patsy Parks, and Gary Landry Sr. and Virginia Landry and step grandparents, Helen and Ted Grabert.
Ron is also survived by his mother, Mercedes Grabert, and stepfather, Teddy Grabert; his brothers, Sam Grabert and Elijah Grabert; his father, Ron Landry Sr., and stepmother, Vicki McVey; his brother, Jordan Landry; and his stepsiblings, Kendal Duet and Londi Duet.
He also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others.
Ron was the kind of husband and father who made his family feel safe, cherished, and cared for. He had a remarkable ability to anticipate the needs of those he loved, often taking care of things before anyone even realized they needed to be done. Whether it was something big or small, Ron made it his responsibility to ensure his family never had to face life’s challenges alone. If Destiny or either of his girls needed him, there was no question that he would be there. He would have dropped anything, without hesitation, to show up for the people he loved.
And while Ron worked tirelessly to provide his family with a beautiful life, his greatest gift to them was never something money could buy. It was his presence, his dependability, his affection, and the reassurance that they could always count on him.
He understood that being a husband and father meant far more than providing a roof over his family’s heads. It meant being emotionally present, offering comfort during difficult moments, celebrating life’s victories, and making sure the people he loved never questioned how much they meant to him.
Ron had a special way of making his girls feel loved. He regularly brought home flowers for Destiny, Rylie, and Laney, a simple but meaningful gesture that reflected the thoughtfulness he carried into every part of their lives. He didn’t need a holiday or special occasion to remind them they were loved. He simply wanted to make them smile.
He was fiercely protective of his family, steadfast in his loyalty, and unwavering in his devotion. Yet alongside that strength was a tenderness that made him an exceptional husband and father.
Ron was incredibly proud of Rylie and the young lady she was becoming. He treasured spending time with her, being part of her life, and watching her grow. He was not simply a father who provided, but one who was present, attentive, and deeply invested in his daughter’s happiness and well-being. He cherished his role as Laney’s stepfather as well, extending that same love, protection, and devotion to her.
Through his actions, Ron showed his daughters what they deserved from the people they would one day choose to share their lives with. He set an example of what a good man should strive to be: strong but gentle, hardworking but present, protective but compassionate, and loyal without condition. He taught them that real love is not simply something a person says, but something they demonstrate through consistency, sacrifice, kindness, and the willingness to show up every single day.
To Destiny, Ron was so much more than a husband. He was her best friend, her partner, her protector, her greatest adventure, her soulmate, and the man she had planned to grow old beside. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventures, and memories that will be treasured forever. He was someone she could lean on, laugh with, and trust to stand beside her through whatever life brought their way.
Ron also had a gift for bringing joy into the lives of those around him.
He loved to joke around, make people laugh, and find humor in almost any situation. Even when life became stressful or difficult, Ron had a way of lightening the mood and bringing a smile to someone’s face. His playful spirit and sense of humor were part of what made being around him so special. He understood that life was meant to be enjoyed, and he made it a point to share that joy with the people he loved.
That same passion and determination carried into his professional life.
Ron began his career on the Mississippi River at just 20 years old, working as a deckhand on towboats. Even at that young age, he had his sights set on something greater. He dreamed of making it into the wheelhouse and one day becoming a captain.
Through years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Ron made that dream a reality. Around the age of 25, he earned his place in the wheelhouse, and by 27, he had become the captain of his own boat.
For Ron, being a towboat captain was never just a job. It was a lifelong ambition he had worked tirelessly to achieve, and he took tremendous pride in the career he built from the ground up. He loved navigating the Mississippi River and carried the same determination into his work that he brought to every other part of his life.
Yet no matter how proud he was of his accomplishments on the river, nothing ever meant more to him than coming home to his family.
Ron was also a man of extraordinary generosity.
He had a genuine heart for helping others and believed that if he was in a position to make someone’s life a little easier, he should. Whether it was family, a friend, a coworker, or a complete stranger, Ron never hesitated to lend a hand.
He was known for tipping generously, often far beyond what was expected, because he understood the value of hard work and appreciated the efforts of others. He gave freely, helped willingly, and never expected recognition in return.
His generosity was not something he reserved for special occasions. It was simply part of who he was. Ron found fulfillment in knowing he could make a difference in someone’s day, no matter how small the gesture might seem.
Outside of work, Ron embraced life with an adventurous spirit. He loved riding motorcycles, his guns, watching movies, spending time on the water, traveling, and making memories with those closest to him. He believed in working hard, but he also believed in enjoying the life he had worked so hard to create.
Ron was a man of strength, integrity, tenderness, and devotion. He embodied so many of the qualities people spend their lives searching for in a husband, father, friend, and role model. He was a provider in every sense of the word, offering not only financial security, but emotional support, unconditional love, and a steady presence his family could always depend on.
His legacy is not simply in the career he built, the dreams he accomplished, or the generosity he showed to others. It lives in the example he set, the love he gave, and the countless ways he made the people around him feel valued, protected, and cherished.
His daughters will carry with them the example of a man who showed them what love should look like. His wife will carry the memories of a husband who was also her best friend and had so many inside jokes. And all who knew him will remember a man who worked hard, loved fiercely, gave selflessly, and could always find a reason to laugh.
Although Ron’s life ended far too soon, the love he gave throughout it will never end. It will live on in the stories his family tells, the lessons he taught, the laughter he inspired, and the countless memories they will hold close for the rest of their lives.
Ron spent much of his life navigating the mighty Mississippi River, but the greatest journey of his life was the one he shared with his family. And while they must now find their way forward without him by their side, the love, strength, and example he leaves behind will continue to guide them.
He was everything a husband and father should strive to be, and his family will spend a lifetime being grateful that he was theirs.
He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
