Percy “Noonie” Vegas, age 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Born and raised on Grand Isle, Louisiana, Percy, affectionately known as “Noonie”, was a man whose warmth, generosity and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
As a young man, he left home in search of greater opportunities and new experiences. The journey broadened his horizons and strengthened his determination, ultimately leading him back to Grand Isle, where he built a successful career as a commercial shrimp and fisherman alongside the love of his life, his wife, Theresa Silver Vegas of Hampton, New Hampshire. Together they built a home rooted in love, faith and family.
Noonie was known throughout the community as the unofficial ambassador of Grand Isle. He took great pride in his island home and delighted in sharing its beauty and spirit with everyone he met. His welcoming smile, generous heart, the ability to make people laugh and gift for making people feel like family earned him lifelong friendships and the admiration of many.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Noonie found his greatest joy in spending time fishing with his family. He worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved and gave to those in need. Noonie was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren and friends. His laughter, optimism and zest for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Noonie faced challenges with remarkable resilience, courage and grace. Even during his final illness, he remained a source of strength and inspiration to those around him. He signaled this often with a simple “thumbs up” gesture or with a big smile while saying “Do whatcha gotta do!”…much to everyone’s amusement and admiration.
Noonie is survived by his wife, Theresa Silver Vegas; daughters, Mikelle Ricou (Denis), Aimee Deville (Ryan) and Melissa Pizani (Craig); his cherished grandchildren, Brody Ricou, Diem, Aubree, Brandon, Dalton and Trenton Deville, Vivian and Bowen Pizani; brothers, Terry “Buff” Vegas (Frances) and Rene “Buggie” Vegas (Dodie); sisters, Kerry “Yain” McMullen (Barry) and Deanna “Tootsie” Crosby (Kelly) and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
