Lois Legendre Larousse

Lois Legendre Larousse, 91, a life-long native and resident of Mathews, LA passed away on July 18, 2025 in her home surrounded by the love, laughter, tears, and peace of God, caretakers, and loved ones. Many thanks to Haydel Memorial Hospice for their transitional guidance, Cardiovascular Institute of the South, Ochsner Health Care, and Gulf Coast Orthopedics for extending her precious life with their medical expertise and compassion, and the caregivers she so dearly loved, trusted, and counted on.
Lois is survived by her children; Dr. Ferrell Larousse, DVM, Faye (James) Pertuit, Jody (Christine) Larousse, Neal (Inez) Larousse, Todd (Jennifer) Larousse, and Tina (David) West; daughter-in-law Peggy Larousse, 11 Grandchildren, 9 Step Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 21 Step Great Grandchildren along with all the in laws that provided those precious loved ones that filled her daily thoughts and prayers.
Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Benton Paul Larousse of Gheens, LA. His family stretched from Grand Isle, up Bayou Lafourche to most every area surrounding the west side of our Great Mississippi River. Their family life was their greatest legacy of love and commitment to their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three of her treasured children; Kevin, Lila, and Kyle and one daughter-in-law; Donna. Her parents; Leonce Sr. and Azelie Bernadette “Bea” Chauvin Legendre. These beloved angels guided her daily lifeline and prayer intentions.
She committed her life to her St Hilary of Poitiers from cleaning, cooking, sewing, baking, festival support, Council of Catholic Women, and most importantly in the upbringing of her children in the faith. She additionally extended her volunteer services through the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary both locally and at her 30 + years of dedication to the VA Hospital in New Orleans with her monthly aide. She was known to many of medical community with her sewing, ironing, and hospital sitting. She held Drs. Jones, Ayo, Eroche, and Guillermo in her highest esteem.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday, July 21, 2025 at St. Mary’s Nativity Community Center, Raceland, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Holy Savior Cemetery, Lockport, LA.
