Jane Newmister Cheramie

Jane Elizabeth Cheramie, 83, of Grand Isle, LA, passed away peacefully at UMC Hospital in New Orleans, LA, on April 28, 2026.

A Memorial Mass will be held on May 11, 2026, at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church, Grand Isle, LA at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of service. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Larose, LA.

She was born in Greencastle, IN on October 28, 1942, to James and Mary Newmister. Jane married Gerald and gained 4 bonus children, Geraldine, James (Heidi), Freddie (Nan) and Alan (Norma).

Jane Elizabeth Cheramie has 4 living children, Gary Clarkson, Terry Clarkson, Rebecca (Tommy) Hill, Kristeen Funderburk.

She worked at Cigar’s Restaurant. She loved crocheting, reading and listening to tv.

Jane is survived by 4 children, 4 step-children, 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Cheramie; parents, James Eli and Mary Newmister and her first husband, Jerry Lee Clarkson.
