Francis Edward Beirs

July 8, 1944 — June 21, 2025

Lockport

Francis Edward Beirs, age 80, of Lockport, LA, was called home while resting peacefully, encircled by the warmth of those he loved on June 21, 2025.

Born on July 8,1944 in Hartford Connecticut, he was the child of Edward and Victoria Beirs. Loving brother to his siblings Jude Laxer (Gordie), Theresa Beirs and Jonas Beirs.

Fran is survived by his loving wife Sandra and his Children, John Beirs (Chris), Joan Beirs (Daughter in Law), Jared Chiasson (Shelley), Rachel Beirs, Rowdy Adams (Kelly). He also opened his heart and home to Jacob LeBlanc, whom he loved like a son until his last breath. The strength, love, and resilience he embodied are beautifully reflected in his grandchildren: Farrin DiFebbo, Jonathan Allen, Jeffrey Allen, Troy Beirs Jr, Jordan Chiasson, Riley Beirs, Alexis Hutchinson, Connor Chiasson, Ali Adams, Victoria Hutchinson, Claudia Adams and August Adams and Great-Grand Children Gage and Teagan DiFebbo, and Issy Allen.

He was welcomed into eternal life by his sons Vincent and Troy Beirs, his parents Edward and Victoria Beirs, and Mary Beirs, with whom he shared the gift of family, and who was a loving mother to their children.

Fran was known for his unwavering dedication to physical fitness, a passion he maintained throughout his 23-year battle with ALS. He worked out daily, viewing exercise not just as a lifestyle, but as a personal stand against the disease. His strength—both physical and personal—was legendary, earning him the nickname “Walking Tall” and admiration for his infamous 23-inch biceps, a testament to a routine he began at just 11 years old.

Among his proudest professional achievements was his work in special effects for major films such as Home Alone, Born on the Fourth of July, and The Exorcist III. He loved sharing behind-the-scenes stories and would often pause movies to explain how scenes were made, sparking a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking.

Earlier in life, Fran also had an adventurous career as a professional diver, filled with stories of underwater exploration and recovery work. He recounted those days with vivid detail and pride, bringing each tale to life as only he could.

A visitation will be held on Monday June 30, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00PM at Victory Life Church, Lockport LA followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 PM. Live stream of the memorial service can be viewed on the churches Facebook page: Victory Life Church (Lockport)

With heartfelt thanks, the family acknowledges Linsey Daigle for more than 15 years of primary care. Also, Lacy and Amy from ACG Hospice for the tender care and support they provided to him and our family in his final days.

Though ALS challenged his body, it never touched his spirit. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and faced each day with unshakable courage. His mighty heart and fierce strength will echo in our hearts forever.
