Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date at both the Raceland
Presbyterian Church in Raceland, Louisiana and also in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Frances was a remarkable woman who lived life to the fullest and was a true champion
of the Cajun culture, language, and community. Anyone who ever met her instantly felt her
joie de vis and her dedication to Christian service and outreach as one of God’s angels on
earth.
She was a force for good throughout the Raceland community, her church, Lafourche
Parish, and Colorado Springs, Colorado where she spent lots of time with her daughter’s
family in person, by phone and on Facetime. She was a very strong woman who was a
mentor to all of her family and an inspiration to everyone around her. She charmed everyone
with her storytelling and mischievous laugh, and freely shared her wisdom with anyone who
wanted to learn or needed help in any way.
Her adventurous spirit led her all across America and around the world including
Europe, China, Africa, and even ziplining in the jungles of Costa Rica in her later years. She
would travel with friends and also did numerous solo trips to visit friends in France who had
stayed at her bed and breakfast, La Famille Martin, over the past 35+ years.
Her family was one of the original founders of the Raceland Presbyterian Church. She
was one of the original founders of the Girl Scout troops in Raceland and the Good Samaritan
Food Bank and Thrift Store 40+ years ago, a volunteer at the Lafourche Parish Tourist
Commission, and was most recently a volunteer at the Raceland Baptist Church Thrift Store.
For her volunteer services to the community, she received numerous awards over the years.
Since French was her first language, she was a regular at the Tuesday night gathering
of the Thibodaux Cercle Francophone French group. She also served as a translator on
numerous occasions for French tourists all around Lafourche Parish.
She loved sewing, crafts, flower gardening, woodworking, old Westerns, meeting new
people, reminiscing about the old days, friends and family gatherings, and was a very
accomplished artist. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all.
