Eugene William Thibodaux, more affectionately known to all of us as “Pa”, a native of Thibodaux and a lifelong resident of Raceland, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Thibodaux; his children, Lydia Thibodaux (Kim), Lynette Callahan (Reed), and Lonnie Thibodaux (Cynthia); his four grandchildren, Rudy Laris III (Heidi), Rene Thibodaux (Rhyannon), Gabrielle Thibodaux, and Abby Callahan (Grant); his four great-grandchildren, Rhen and Reece Thibodaux, and Rudy IV and Vail Laris, his “chosen” grandchild Kenneth Fairchild and his fur-baby, Maggie.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Joseph Thibodaux, and his siblings, Russell Thibodaux, Leonard Thibodaux, Paul Thibodaux, and Lois Ledet.
Pa lived life to the absolute fullest. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and cheering on his beloved Saints and LSU Tigers. He found pure joy in life’s simple pleasures: playing cards with family and friends, tending to his flower beds and looking forward to every bloom, bird watching in his yard, and caring for the goldfish pond on his patio.
Pa also loved Granny’s cooking and held her cooking to the highest standard by comparing everyone else’s cooking to hers.
A trip to the local nursery for new plants or a routine run to Walmart was never a quick trip for Pa. They were just excuses to socialize with his friends at the store.
Above all, Pa was his family's biggest fan. Whether it was a school function, an extracurricular event, or any milestone in between, if he could be there, he was. You could always count on seeing his huge smile and receiving one of his big, special hugs.
Pa will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow Saints fans, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Pa, you gave us a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry you in our hearts forever.
The family would also like to thank St. Anne Ochsner's hospital of Raceland and Ochsner's Main Campus for the care they gave to Pa in the hospital as well as the care he received from St Joseph Hospice. The family also appreciates the care he received over the years from Dr. Mohammad Nawaz and Dr. Kenneth Wong.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 9:00 am until the Memorial Mass at 11:00 am with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In honor of Pa’s memory, flowers and plants are deeply appreciated.
