Essie Nelson Madere, 93, a resident of Luling, LA, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2025 at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home.
A Graveside service will be at 10:00 am on, Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Hahnville, LA. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at West St. Charles Baptist Church in Boutte, LA.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Nolan “Pete” Madere; father, Rev. John W. Nelson; mother, Sarah Rassman Nelson; sisters, Bonnie Frances and Nellie Ray Green and brothers, Rev. Charles Nelson and Rev. Earl Nelson.
Essie was a beloved mother to her children, Michael (the late Connie) Madere, Jimmy (Tracie) Madere, Susan (Jeff) Aubert; granddaughter, Amy (Lt. Col. Douglas) Lewandowski; great grandchildren, Sydney and Jack Lewandowski.
She was born in Farmington, KY on October 4, 1932, where she met her husband Pete while he was in the Army and stationed at Fort Campbell.
Essie was a longtime member of West St. Charles Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.
A special thanks to everyone at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home for their outstanding care and kindness. Also thanks the Amedisys Hospice for their help in Essie’s final weeks.
