Douglas "Doogie" Paul Patterson

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Douglas Paul Patterson known as “Doogie” who passed away August 9, 2026, at 79 years old. He was a native and resident of Houma, La.

Private funeral service with the family will be held at a later date.

Douglas is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Susan Marie Olivier Patterson; daughters, Amy Patterson Guidry and husband, Randy, and Melissa “Myssi” Patterson Rhodes and ex-husband, Nicki; sister-in-law, Linda Naquin Patterson; grandchildren, Dustin Guidry and girlfriend, Meagan, Christin Rhodes and fiancé, Devin, Josh Guidry and wife, Kasey, and Nick Rhodes, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Kiersyn, Graysen, Myles, Maysen, Kinzie, Kason, Bella, Cole, Adalynn, and Paisley.

Douglas was preceded in death by his infant son, Todd Matthew Patterson; parents, Dudley Samuel Patterson and Inez LeCompte Patterson; brother, Donald “Don” Patterson; and stepmother, Edith Patterson.

Doug was a hardworking man all of his life working to support and provide for his family. He even went as far as working overseas in the North Sea to provide the best he could for them. He met many good cajun men who were also there working for the same purpose and became close friends.

He owned several businesses ending his career with the French Loaf, which he absolutely loved. Food and serving people were his passion. He loved everything about the restaurant business. The French Loaf allowed him to meet many customers who became close friends. He loved feeding people and was proud of the quality and quantity of the food he served. Once he retired, he still had people asking when would he reopen. The French Loaf also allowed him to acquire his property in Mississippi that he was very proud to have.

He loved rabbit hunting, duck hunting and years later deer hunting. The Camp was a place for his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family to enjoy the great outdoors as much as he did. We had a lot of fun, memorable times there and were blessed to have a place to run from hurricanes.

We would like to thank the good Samaritan who stopped and the many first responders who came to his aid. Doogie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
