Dorita Collins Bruce, 95, passed away on May 3, 2026. She was a resident of Cut Off, Louisiana.Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, then funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in Cut Off on Tuesday, May 12th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service.
Dorita is survived by children Charleen Hebert (Kirk) and Eura Bruce Jr. (Clay Williams); brother Carrol J. Collins; 4 grandchildren, Amy Gisclair (Aric), Sara Chamberlain (Matt), Kirk Hebert Jr. (Connie), and Michael Hebert (Lacey); 11 great grandchildren (Lennon Gisclair, Jackson Gisclair, Max Chamberlain, Jude Chamberlain, Claire Hebert, Corynn Hebert, Cole Hebert, Camille Hebert, Tyler Sanders, Ali Hebert and Sophie Hebert), and also an army of other family and friends who she loved and adored.
Dorita was preceded in death by her parents Damonville and mother Celestine; husband Eura Bruce Sr., and siblings (Amanda, Nolda, Doris, Bertha, Alvin, Alvina, Damonville Jr., Cleveland, Anna Mae, Gloria, Johnny, Virgie, Lucy and Demoville Jr.).
In the final years of her life, Dorita was known to many as ‘Old Granny.’ Family or not, it didn't matter. She was everyone’s ‘Old Granny.’ But the unique irony is there was nothing ‘Old,’ or ‘Granny’ about her personality. She lived every last second of her 95 years with infinite energy and passion. She loved music – especially Fats Domino and loved to dance, never being afraid to shake a leg, no matter who was around. Dorita was always the life of the party and never stopped moving forward – even still actively driving her car in the final days of her life. When not on the go and at home, Dorita’s safe space was her porch where she sat and rocked for thousands of hours in her life. If not entertaining friends, her favorite place was on her porch, gliding away on her red rockers without a care in the world.
Dorita never met a stranger. In any room, she could find a friend – even if they were not her friend beforehand. Through conversation and her charismatic charm, she would light up the room and always find a way to make everyone happier with her presence. With her brutal honesty, but also uncanny wit, she could tell it to you like it is, but also in a way that made all around her feel special, loved and proud – to be her family, friends or both. She was family to everyone she knew. Because she was … everyone’s ‘Old Granny.’
Dorita was a woman of independence. She always wanted to live freely and had the joy of life in her until the day she gained her wings. Her final words in the flesh were so profound to her life: “I’m a fighter. I’ve always been a fighter.”
Family would like to invite people to Dorita’s service, which will be a celebration of life for a woman that was truly one of a kind. Those attending are asked to dress in bright colors with their fanciest bling. While getting dressed and/or while on the ride to the church, play your music loud, proud and do not be afraid to let loose and shake a leg while celebrating the beautiful life and legacy of this beautiful lady who will be doing the same as she looks down on us all with a smile.
