Donald Ray Ducote, 76, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Avondale, Passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carmelita “Lita” Richard Ducote, daughter, Lindsay M. Ducote-Guidry, grandchildren, Mason W. Ducote, Maddison L. Ducote, and Morgan B. Guidry, goddaughter, Kellie Peyton, sister, Sharon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and brothers of the Knights of Columbus.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Hilda Ducote, brother, Jessie, and his nephew and godson, Jessie “Lil’ Jessie” Ducote.
Don was a faithful Catholic and was very active in his church community. He was the official floral arranger for the Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1988, eventually rising to the rank of Master of the State of Louisiana. He was a current member of council 2409 of Luling. He was inducted into the order of the Fleur De Lis in 2025, a Catholic organization that honors Catholic men for exceptional service to their church and community. He proudly reigned as King Creole Gumbo XXIV in 2008 for the Bridge City Gumbo Festival, where his gumbo won best in show several times. In addition to his service to his church and community, Don also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking, dancing, and watching football.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Hahnville, LA, on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 9:00AM until the service time. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 AM, and internment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, LA.
The family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and caretakers at LCMC West Jefferson Medical Center and the Health Cancer Care Center for all their compassion and care.
