Dedra Cheramie Ashman July 14, 1951 – March 20, 2026
Dedra Cheramie Ashman, a native of Galliano, Louisiana, and resident of Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away on March 20, 2026.
Dedra is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles Richard Ashman; daughter, Lauren Ashman Baker (Justin); mother, Gloria Guidry Cheramie; grandchildren, Lillian Mae Baker and Charles Michael Baker; sister, Dana Cheramie Barrios; brother, Huey Joseph Cheramie (Sherena); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Huey Long Cheramie, and brother-in-law, Reed Peter Barrios.
Dedra spent over 40 years as an administrative assistant working in New Orleans and Golden Meadow, Louisiana; Denton, TX; and Charlotte, NC. Her career reflected her natural ability to account for every detail and ensure that everyone was looked after. While she was serious, Dedra also knew how to have fun. She kept her family laughing with her one-liners and facial expressions that always gave away her true thoughts; with Dedra, you never had to wonder what she was thinking!
Dedra loved laughing through life beside her husband, Chuck. Together as ‘De’ and ‘Babalu,’ they doted on their ‘babies,’ Lillian and Charlie, with endless love and devotion. A caretaker at heart, Dedra spent her life looking out for everyone around her. Even when she required care herself, she remained the one making sure every detail was handled and every family member was thought of, consistently putting others before herself.
While she will be greatly missed, there is comfort in knowing she is now at rest.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano, Louisiana. The funeral Mass will begin at 11:00AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org.
