Darren Gerard Griffin

May 14, 1972 — November 8, 2025

Raceland

In the early morning of Saturday, November 8, 2025, Darren “Big Griff” Griffin, 53, native of Lockport and resident of Raceland, passed away. He was at home with his wife of 28 years, Melissa, their son, Bryce, and loved ones at his side. He was faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis and fought valiantly until the very end, like the fierce warrior we all knew him to be. God gained a faithfully soldier in his army that morning. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way he lived it, with a happy smile, a warm greeting, and an open heart to everyone he met. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

A proud graduate of the CLHS Class of 1990, where he was an outstanding student and athlete. He received a scholarship to play baseball at Nicholls State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. After graduation, he came home to be surrounded by his family, friends, and the community he loved. He was a loyal employee of Bollinger Shipyards Inc., as a Working Leaderman machinist for over 28 years. He loved to hunt, fish, and spending time with his family and friends.

Darren is survived by his wife, Melissa Falgout Griffin; his son, Bryce Gerard (Makensey) Griffin; his siblings, Harris (Joan) Griffin, Karen (Farrell) Charpentier, Mitch (Vickie) Griffin, Andrew (Grace) Griffin, Milfred (Donna) Griffin, Bryan (Maureen) Griffin, Lori (Michael, Sr.) St. Pierre, Nancy (Clyde) Johnson, Angela Griffin, Alexander (Dana) Griffin, Allicen (Dominick) Griffin, and Paula (David) Malone; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Arceneaux Falgout; his brother-in-law, Scott (Tanya) Falgout; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darren was preceded in death by his parents, Horris and Dolores Griffin; and his father-in-law, Phillip Falgout.
