Dale Edward Ordoyne

June 30, 1950 – April 25, 2025

Dale Edward Ordoyne, a proud New Orleans native and resident of Cut Off, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 25, 2025, at the age of 74.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward “Woody” Joseph Ordoyne, and his mother, Agnes Gomez Ordoyne. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ora Cheramie Ordoyne; his son, Devin Ordoyne (Corey), his daughter, Megan Ordoyne Bickford (Richard), his brother Cliff Ordoyne (Judy), and his four cherished grandchildren- Decker, Lucy and Beau Ordoyne, and Stella Bickford, all of whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply.Dale graduated from De La Salle High School and went on to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to open the first oyster bar in the student union — an early sign of his lifelong love of food and hospitality.

He found immense joy in being near the water, hunting, and spending time outdoors. An animal lover, Dale was especially devoted to his dogs. Affectionately known as "Gumby," Dale enjoyed spoiling and creating "core memories" with his grandchildren, and took great pleasure in giving generously to family and friends.

A larger-than-life presence, Dale lived with incredibly high expectations, relentless drive, and a heart as big as his personality. A gifted raconteur and mentor, his life lessons took the form of legendary stories that captivated us all. He loved Mardi Gras, having rolled in Tucks and Endymion in his younger days, and was a proud member of the Fête du Cochon. A consummate host, Dale and Ora’s house in Gulf Breeze, FL was dubbed “The Blue Dolphin Inn” after years of hosting family reunions, where everyone was welcome and considered part of the family.

Professionally, Dale enjoyed a long, celebrated, and distinguished career as an executive in the cable industry, which took his family across the southeastern United States. Still, he kept the promise to his wife to return to her hometown of Cut Off, where he lived out his final years surrounded by loved ones, crawfish, and crabs.

Above all, Dale was immensely proud of his family — his greatest joy and legacy. His generosity, passion for life, and indomitable spirit will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
