Coach Charles J Comeaux passed away peacefully on 02/25/2026 at the age of 96. He was native of Donaldsonville, La, and resident of Galliano, La, for the past 60 yrs.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitations on Sunday, March 1st, from 5pm to 9am at Falgout Funeral Home Galliano, La. and on Monday, March 2nd from 9am until service time at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Larose, La. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am with burial and Military Honors to follow at Cheramie's Cemetery Galliano La.
Mr. Charles is survived by his Children: Sandra (Francis) Bruce, Charlie (Arin) Comeaux, Cindy (Michael) Calvert, Patsy Collins and Mary Kay (Greg) Rabb. Grandchildren: Tiffany (Ryan) Mayet, Carl (Hanna) Bruce, Kristi and Colby Comeaux (Amara Austin), Sarah Veillon, Sid Huget, Will (Shaina) Rabb, and Kelly Bolin (Donnie). Great Grandchildren: Drake and Kylie Mayet, Carter Bruce and Allie Young, Memphis and Austin Veillon, Ian (Abbey) Eschete, Bennett Rabb, Charleigh and Delton Bolin, Zade Pelham, and Travis Migues. Brother Warren (Lee) Comeaux, and Friend Elaine Soley. Nephews James and Brian (Francois) Comeaux.
Mr .Comeaux was preceded in death by his wife Ann Assunto Comeaux, parents Charles A Comeaux and Odette Simoneaux Comeaux, and infant sister.
Coach Comeaux was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as an airplane mechanic. He graduated from Loyola University in Education, and received his Master’s Degree from Nicholls State Univeristy. His first Job was at Kenner High School in the spring of 1955. Then in fall of 1955, he became the head football and track coach at Asension Caltholic in Donaldsonville La. In just 5 yrs, at Catholic, his track team was State Runner-up. He also had a 3rd and 4th place finish at state. In 1961, he moved on to Hahnville High School as an assistant football coach and head track coach. At Hahnville, he coached the 1966 team to a State Runner-Up Finish. The very next year, Hahnville won the 1967 State Track Championship. The only one in the school's history of Hahnville. In 1966, he moved his family of 5 kids and his wife to Galliano to begin his career at South Lafourche High School as an assistant football coach and head track coach. At South Lafourche, his best track team was in 1973. The team finished 4th at the state track meet. Football at South Lafourche was his crowning jewel. In 1971 and 1977, the football team won the State Football Championships. He was part of a great coaching staff of Ralph Pere, Roland "Grib" Boudreax, and Earl Bourgeois. Together, they won the District Championship 8 of his last 9 seasons. He retired from coaching in 1980 and from teaching in 1986. He Coached 22 State Champions in Track and Field. Plus 2 of his grandchildren were state champions. Along the way, he touched a lot of students.
His most famous student athletes are: Bobby Hebert New Orleans Saints QB, Ed Bae Bae Orgeron LSU Head Coach, 2019 National Champions, James Carville, (yes the advisor to Bill Clinton, Ascension Catholic), Ronnie "Crocket" Estay LSU, Curtis "Chick" Martin LSU, Vorney O'Quin Javelin (longest high school throw 1976), and Louie Sirmon Hahnville (4 time state champion in the 100 and 200)
