Melvin James Guillot, Sr, age 86, a resident of Raceland, La, passed away Nov 4, 2021 surrounded by his
 
 family. Melvin was born April 20, 1935 in Gheens, La. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kate Rivet
 
 Guillot, his sons Melvin Jr, Michael, Mark (Angela), Mitchel(Robin) and daughter Kathy Guillot Matherne.
 
 Melvin is also survived by his brother Ronald Folse, sister Delores St Pierre, and sister-in-laws Dorothy
 
 and Jill Guillot, along with 9 granchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
 
 parents Lillian and Joseph Guillot, brothers Nelson, Ray, John, Russel and Danny Guillot and sister Pearl
 
 Schwartz, grandson Matthew Guillot, daughter- in- law Cynthia Guillot and son- in- law Kevin Matherne.
 
 Melvin was a Master Seargent in the United States Marine Corps, serving 20 years on active duty and 10
 
 years in the Marine reserves. He proudly served two tours of duty each in the Korean and Vietnam
 
 Wars. Following his Marine Corps retirement in 1981 after 30 years in service to his country he pursued
 
 a second career in the Maritime Industry that spanned another 20 years starting as a deckhand and
 
 quickly advancing up to 1st mate then obtaining his 16ton USCG Masters license. He was also a lifetime
 
 member of the VFW and Marine Corps Association. Melvin will be remembered for his service to his
 
 country and his love for his family. Visitation will be held from 10:30AM to 11:00 AM on Sat, Nov 13,
 
 2021 at St Hilary Catholic Church at 333 Church St, Raceland, La. followed by service of Christian burial
 
 to include military honors for his proud service in the United States Marine Corps
