Horace Joseph Champagne Jr., 88, a native and resident of Luling, was called to Heaven on Thursday, May 30, 2024. He was the middle son of 14 children born to Horace Sr. and Mary Catherine Ford Champagne.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Louise Matis Champagne; his parents, Horace Sr. and Mary Catherine Ford Champagne; his sister, Pearl Somme-Laurent; and brothers, Harold Champagne Sr., Morris Champagne, Alvin “Champ” Champagne, Johnny Champagne Sr., Jerry Champagne Sr., and Thomas Champagne.
Horace is survived by his children, Brian (Amanda) Champagne, Scott (Charity) Champagne, and Angella (Brian Baio) Champagne; his grandchildren, Brittani (Luis) Corzo, Evan (Gavin Brehm) Champagne, James Champagne, Adam Champagne, Seth (Kristin) Champagne, Kaleb (Ava) Champagne, and Quinn Champagne; his great-grandchildren, Piper and Oliver Corzo; his sister, Bessie Champagne; and brothers, Charles Champagne Sr., Ronald Champagne, David Champagne Sr., Anthony Champagne Sr., and Wayne “Catfish” Champagne. Uncle Horace also had many nieces and nephews, whom he enjoyed cooking for Mardi Gras and at many family gatherings every year.
Horace followed his father in working for Louisiana Power & Light (Entergy) as a lineman, retiring after 39 years of service. He was an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America for 55 years. In 2022, he was awarded the “Golden Eagle” for his many years as a Committee Member and Assistant Scoutmaster for Cub Packs 370 and 371, Troops 323, 370, and 371. Archbishop Schulte presented Horace the “Order of St. Louis IX” award for his service to the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Charles Council 2409.
In 2022, the Louisiana State Legislature and St. Charles Parish Council recognized Horace and 11 of his siblings who served our Country honorably from World War II to Vietnam. Horace was a proud Marine who attained the rank of Sergeant.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 234 Angus Drive, Luling, LA 70070 on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.
